Why Grey?!! - No…. everyone uses Grey Carpet Tiles ...boring!!

Can I sing the praises of Grey carpet Tiles? Yes, I can

Are they boring? No.

There are many good reasons why the colour Grey carpet tiles are so popular and used in a variety of situations.

Grey as a base colour provides a wonderful backdrop, giving a warm or cool feeling to an area depending on the use. For the modern home, grey has become a very important colour in the interior design pallet. Whether chosen for a kitchen, hallway, living room, dining room, bathroom or bedroom, grey can be seen employed as wall coverings; soft furnishings; furniture or flooring.

Grey as a neutral shade is often co-ordinated with many popular choices of colour scheme; some great examples are silver, teal, red, green, and mustard, blush pink or sometimes black. A way to use this neutral colour is by selecting it as the flooring. Grey flooring is available in wood, tiles, vinyl and carpet on a roll and carpet tiles.

But colour theming is not exclusively used for your home. The wellbeing of staff and visitors is very important, businesses and organisations now work to make their spaces as comfortable and mentally pleasing as possible. After the strange upheaval of the pandemic, many employees worked remotely from their homes, often finding it more conducive to productive work rather than a hindrance as was the concern. Learning from this experience offices and work spaces are becoming more user-friendly. The stark décor and colour pallet is being swept aside for a more considered, calming approach to work spaces.

But the work place is a busier environment than experienced in your home. Furnishings, furniture, flooring all have to be able to endure the work load and be practical. This is where the grey carpet tiles become fully effective. Yes they have always been a staple in the office environment, but they do not need to be utilitarian. We supply carpet tiles in a variety of shades that stretch across the grey spectrum, in different fibres; stitching styles and design ranges.

For utility areas our Fine Rib Galaxy Grey carpet tiles are a hardwearing choice. Their mid misty grey shade is pleasant and takes the edge off plain functional areas.

We have a selection for meeting rooms, foyers and waiting areas where a more robust tile is called for. We offer Ultra Grey, Aspen Grey and Atlas Grey. These can also be ideal choices along with the Ultra Light Grey in situations throughout the home, for example in a dressing room.

When offices are filled with desks and the obligatory castor chairs the perfect greys are on offer in our castor friendly selection Galleon, Quartz and Atlas Carpet Tiles. All of which are very hardy and aesthetically pleasing, especially when partnered with the statement colours mentioned earlier.

Another option from our grey carpet tile catalogue is the nylon cut pile Geneva Grey, this is a sumptuous, soft grey tile ideal for bedrooms where comfort under foot is preferred, or to spoil your directors and colleagues and lay them in your company boardroom.

We also have another option for a modern working space the Maxima range, here you could choose Coda, a dark and mid grey linear pattern tile or alternatively Versa, a grey and blue mix in the same contemporary style stitching.

Is grey boring? I think the answer is no, not in the least……

Schools out for summer...

And so the school holiday maintenance begins...

School governing bodies have historically taken this opportunity of the summer break to carry out necessary repairs but also to update and renew broken and worn out furniture and floor coverings.

The new school year will welcome new students and often new staff, so why not greet them with pleasant updated areas to aid towards a comfortable and productive atmosphere in which to work.

We have been supplying schools from all over the UK with our carpet tiles for many, many years. Our products have proven to be ideal for the heavy footfall and tough working conditions in which they have to provide a safe and enhancing work place. Carpet tiles are ideal in school and college situations as they can be removed and cleaned or singularly replaced if spoilt, saving the expense of re-carpeting a whole area. They prove to be economically a good choice as they usually last longer than carpet on a roll.

When using carpet tiles in a classroom, meeting room or office spaces our castor chair certified polypropylenes are a favourable choice. We supply these in the two most popular colours chosen for such areas, a grey named Quartz Grey and a dark blue named Kyanite Blue. Both are loop pile carpet tiles, offering a resilient, hardy surface. The colours are flecked in appearance helping to camouflage the lint, dust and fluff which always appear in classroom situations until the next cleaning session.

For corridors and situations where feet and footwear are the principle protagonists, we have the Ultra Range. These come in a selection of colours, tough though competitively priced you can chose from Ultra Mid Blue, Ultra Grey, Ultra Light Grey, Ultra Dark Green and if a brighter colour is required there is also the Ultra Beige.

For offices and administrative work places we also have available our Nylon Carpet Tiles, these offer a softer though longer lasting fibre, giving them a durable but pleasant feel. Our large range of colours allow for most tastes but also hardwearing practicality. The distinctive Bosun Blue carpet tile is a lovely combination of a range of speckled blue shades, whereas our Mariner Blue has a silvery fibre woven through its mid blue prime colour. We can offer Galleon grey, Atlas Grey, Trafalgar Blue, Landmark Green, Clipper Brown, Admiral Red and Compass Beige so allowing any situation to be carpet tiled.

If your maintenance team are looking for resilient, classical, easily applied flooring then Carpet Tiles are an advantageous option.

We at Carpet Tiles Next Day also have a variety of colours available for immediate despatch within the carpet tiles UK marketplace, suitable for domestic and commercial settings.

It may be the season to check out what’s happening outside, with gardening being a priority for some as the sleepiness and hibernation of the winter months has long passed and we look forward to those extended days and warmer temperatures. The distant hum of lawnmowers can be heard daily within our towns and villages. Whilst the peacefulness and tranquillity of our beautiful scenic areas are never far away - alive with bees and butterflies roaming freely in the meadows. Daily alarm clocks are set by the birds singing their dawn chorus in all its splendour.

Carpet tile colours such as Ultra Dark Green and Ultra Mid Blue remind us of our great outdoors, along with the earthy Clipper Brown. </xml><![endif]-->Bring
warmth to any installation...

As we approach the sunset of another year and presently embrace its Autumnal features, when leaves rustle as they lie on the ground – the remnants of the season when gales blow and temperatures drop. The apples have already been gathered from the trees before they become bruised and battered by strong winds. The harvest is completed for another year. It’s time to wrap up warm and take up the challenge of keeping the heat in. Thermals at the ready?

Carpet tiles such as Admiral Red will help bring warmth to any installation, domestic or commercial. A durable nylon loop pile carpet tile in a rich dark red mottled design available from Carpet Tiles Next Day, a very serviceable colour with the strength of the rich red coming through the darkness of the surrounding colours.

As the days begin to darken earlier, an evening sitting in a comfortable chair in front of a blazing fire beckons, once seated with a hot drink in hand, it may be difficult to move elsewhere for the rest of the night. Some people may even call it the season of once home, I’m staying home.

As the light now fades quickly in the afternoons and the oncoming winter weather may restrict and limit our outdoor activities, it’s an opportunity and a chance to complete some indoor tasks. A great time to install carpet tiles to various rooms within the house or office indoors. The Geneva Grey nylon cut pile product is ideal for bedrooms and boardrooms alike.

Fitting instructions can be found on our website to aid the installation process, https://www.carpettilesnextday.co.uk/carpet-tile-fitting-guide. Getting tasks that can be completed before the “Spring clean” is a positive and productive way of spending those winter evenings that are approaching. Maybe the arrival and occasional cleaning of new carpet tiles on the floor of a room will add a bit more normality compared to the vacuuming of everything in sight from curtains to lampshades in the months ahead.

Although it may be cooler and fresher outside, however, if you can, wrap up warm and try and catch a beautiful sunset before the year is out, then be prepared to get a glimpse of a sunrise in the dawn of a new year!

Carpet tiles in sports club colours...

Sporting activities have been gradually emerging after some shutdowns and postponements due to the Coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic over the last year or so.

The delayed 2020 Summer Olympic Games may have come to an end not so long ago in Tokyo, Japan in the summer of 2021. The flame in the stadium may now be out, however, we are already moving forward to the next Summer Olympic Games scheduled for Paris, France in 2024 and the flame in the stadium will be visible again. New challenges, records and medals lie ahead, and have been happening since the first Summer Olympic Games were held in Athens, Greece in 1896.

The five Olympic Rings are in different colours, and carpet tiles are also available in various colours, with the exception that our carpet tiles come in the shape of a square. With this variety of carpet tile colour choice, we don’t always have to be going for gold. Greys such as our Quartz Grey and Galleon Grey are very popular, some might say that they are the current top of the podium colours for carpet tiles. Currently each carpet tile we supply is the standard 50 x 50 cms in size, making them easier to install on your floor – rings and circles may show more gaps…

Many clubs, especially from a sporting background, continue to select carpet tiles in their specific club colours – showcasing a welcoming sense of pride in their club to visitors and distinguished guests that attend their facilities. Football, rugby, cricket, hockey, tennis and bowls clubs for example, may highlight their club colours by promoting them through the use of carpet tiles installed on their floors. Depending upon the individual clubs’ particular colour scheme, popular colour choices include Galleon Grey with either Trafalgar Blue or Admiral Red dropped in throughout the floor area, keeping carpet tiles of similar thickness and specification together. Alternatively, one colour that enriches the clubs’ colours can also be installed either broadloom, or checkerboard method. Samples of the carpet tiles are also available from Carpet Tiles Next Day to aid the selection process.

The Landmark Green carpet tile is a favourite of both bowls and tennis clubs. Tennis is a sport in which recently we have seen a rising new female tennis superstar winning the Ladies US Open Singles Tennis Final in New York. A brilliant achievement and an inspiration to others by Emma Raducanu, the first British woman to win a Grand Slam Title since Virginia Wade won Wimbledon in 1977. Going from a Tournament Qualifier to Champion, not dropping a set in the process and finishing the final match with an ace. Well done indeed!

Which carpet tiles qualify for your installation and finish in first place on your floor?

Staycation is the Way to Go!

A holiday spent in one’s home country...

A holiday spent in one’s home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions.
A word (actually the combination of two words, stay and vacation) mentioned frequently during the summer months this year whilst travelling further afield is restricted due to the Coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic.

Here at Carpet Tiles Next Day we continue to monitor the pandemic situation daily and keep our distance from each other whilst implementing good hygiene practises. We also look forward to trips home and abroad in the future, with safety in mind.

Currently trips to the Norfolk Broads, Cornwall, Lake District, Northumberland, Wales and the Scottish Highlands along with many others are popular destinations - or if within Ireland, a little dander along the Giant’s Causeway. As long as you can make the most of where you are, it should always turn out favourable and you may even feel that from now on a staycation is the way to go (excuse the pun).

There has been fine weather at times, a perfect opportunity to explore locations closer to home, whilst trying to maintain an element of safety to others and ourselves. To get there, ideally a trip along quiet roads with music of our choice playing in the background is ideal.

Others have taken to the waterways on river boats, some to the scenic mountains and coastline that surrounds us.

An escape to the hills for a day, just you and your shadow – perfect bliss for some. A chance to gather calm thoughts whilst gently hiking along a deserted pathway off the beaten track under a clear blue sky. Surrounded in places by volcanic grey rock and fresh green pine trees, maybe even come across some wildlife, a stream or waterfall - plenty of hidden gems to be explored.

Others at home have had camping expeditions in their back garden, with the lighting of a fire-pit, accompanied by the toasting of marshmallows to brighten the evening sky.

We may also have taken the opportunity to do some Do-It-Yourself projects. Around the garden or indoors, there’s always something that needs done.

Outside, a new patio, vegetable plots to sort and flowers to be planted, or rejuvenate an old Summer seat maybe on the agenda.

Whilst inside, activities as painting of the hallway, loft to be renovated, a room to redecorate, or even install new carpet tiles to convert a room into a home office to aid working from home, will keep one busy. Grey carpet tiles have been popular recently, Quartz Grey and Geneva Grey have been in demand and are stocked at Carpet Tiles Next Day. Particular colours can also be laid together to create a unique feature to your installation. Borders and pathways can also be used. If greys and reds are your colour combination, the Galleon Grey with some Admiral Red added, would warm your room as we approach the Autumn of this strange year. It may be an ideal opportunity to fit out these domestic areas and with more people working from home, perfect timing to schedule a fit-out at commercial locations too.

So as we continue through the year, if you venture on a local trip, wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, stay safe.

Blue is the Colour...

Blue is the Colour...

Lying between violet and green in the Spectrum of Visible Light, blue has been proven to be the world’s most popular colour. It is one of the three Primary Colours, along with red and green, meaning that all visible colours can be created through the combination of these three main pigments. Most blues contain a mixture of other colours. In Azure blue we find green, and in Ultramarine blue, violet is present.

Blue has been an important colour in interior decoration, art and design since Ancient times.

So where did it originate?

It originated with the Egyptians approximately 6,000 years ago. Whilst mining, they discovered a deep, intense blue metamorphic rock known as Lapis Lazuli. They ground it down to make the colour pigment known as Ultramarine Blue. In 2200 BCE they created ‘Cuprorivate’ (also known as ‘Egyptian Blue’). This is thought to be the first synthetic pigment produced in Egypt, made by mixing lime, copper, silica and alkali. Other minerals such as cobalt and azurite were also used.

These expensive blue pigments were spread to the Persians, Mesoamericans and Romans. Only Royalty could afford them. In the 14th and 15th centuries, the Italians imported them into Medieval Europe where they were sought after by artists, many of whom got into great debt acquiring them. They were considered as precious as gold, and remained that way until a French chemist invented a synthetic Ultramarine Blue in 1826.

What does the colour Blue mean to you?

The colour blue has been said to signify many things including Purity, humility, serenity, spirituality, faith, and freedom. Its calming influence makes it a great choice for a domestic or commercial environment.

Blue has been one of the top selling carpet tile colours for many years. Here at Carpet Tiles Next Day we stock a wide range of shades produced in both polypropylene and nylon to suit all tastes and budgets.
A Brief History of Carpet Tiles

A Brief History...

In the mid-nineteenth century just outside Amsterdam, Holland, a small business named Heuga, manufactured animal skin bicycle seat covers. They experimented by using horse and hog hair yarn, made from a waste by-product of local slaughter houses, to make a wider width fabric using a needle punch machine. They continued to cut their bicycle seats from this fabric but also ventured into making rugs and broadloom carpet. To eliminate waste the company were concerned with utilising as much of the product as they could. From this thought process they tried experimenting with using a backing of Asphalt (Bitumen) on their fabric to give it more durability and stiffness.

Asphalt is a natural product which when heated simply spreads onto the back of the punched fabric, then once cooled it is easily cut. This product proved ideal for cutting into squares, which could then be packed into boxes. The Bitumen backing made this type of flooring a perfect choice for heavy footfall areas, such as commercial sites where normal carpets suffer from harsh and excessive wear. With the boxed product, transportation was simplified and they became a popular choice. These ‘carpet squares’ (or carpet tiles as they are now known), produced less wastage in cut edge materials than the traditional carpet on a roll. They also became popular in Europe for use in domestic properties due to their ease of use.

When synthetic yarns became available in the late 1940’s, the company were no longer confined to using animal hair, of which the supply was limited. Unfortunately, these early synthetic needle punched carpet tiles had one disadvantage. When they were cold they would shrink and when they were hot they would expand. Further development in this technology would eventually eradicate these problems.

10 years on, a company called Collins and Aikman in the USA were making the logical progression from producing carpet with a vinyl cushion backing, to carpet tiles. Around the same time, Milliken, one of the most powerful textile companies in the USA bought out a carpet manufacturer called Callaway. Milliken sent one of their employees, Ray Anderson to Europe to investigate European carpet tile production technology. On his advice, they purchased the US rights to a manufacturing process called Fusion Bonding, the highly developed method of bonding individual yarn pile onto a backing material. This method was invented, and patented by Debron, a carpet tile manufacturer in England.

With the help of investors, Ray Anderson left Milliken and formed his own company called Carpets International of Georgia. They grew quickly, selling fusion bonded carpet tiles, and later became known as Interface. In the early 1970’s in Europe, Heuga ran a successful TV advertising campaign which brought carpet tiles to a mainstream audience. These companies led the market for carpet tiles in the USA during the seventies and eighties, eventually moving over to tufted surfaces from the fusion bonded. In 1988, Heuga, after selling their carpet tiles in the USA, were bought by Interface.

In the following decades commercial office space has grown extraordinarily, skyscraper office constructions, universities and business premises. Carpet tiles have been extremely important in the growth of this type of construction, providing an easy to transport and store flooring. For these reasons, carpet tiles remain the first choice for flooring within the commercial business sector.

Carpet tiles for a boat, caravan or motorhome

Do you own a boat, caravan or motorhome?…

Summer is on the wane and it's nearly time to safely store away your summer toys again. Before you pack up your holiday caravan, motorhome or boat ahead of the winter weather, do they need a little tender loving care?

Many people tend to rejuvenate their precious holiday transportation at the end of the season. This way in spring/summer next year you are ready to immediately get going again, off to new destinations and new adventures. Whether you own a river boat, a sea going cruiser, a caravan or a motorhome they will all need a pretty-up after a heavy summer holiday season.

Here in Great Britain our weather at any time of the year can be a little temperamental, sunny one day and showers the next, leading to dusty or muddy feet. If your favourite time of year is the autumn and you are still using your toys, then those beautiful scenic hikes, kicking through the falling leaves will also give rise to dirty boots returning to your mode of transport.

So before you just lock and shut the doors on another year, set about sprucing up your pride and joy a little. Carpet tiles are a favourite go to for the floors of such vehicles. They are easy to lay, you can cut around awkward areas and are fairly simple to use for any DIY enthusiast. Carpet tiles come into their own when used in areas with heavy use and subjected to high foot fall, especially where tracking tends to happen. For those annoying stains where the rest of the floor is perfect, with this type of flooring only the soiled area has to be removed, then either new or cleaned carpet tiles can be dropped easily back into position again.

Here at Carpet Tiles Next Day we have a large selection of Carpet Tiles, offering a wide choice of colours and a selection of different pile types allowing your personal choice to be satisfied.

If you have any questions regarding our carpet tiles or the fitting of them, we will be very happy to help with any queries. You can contact us via email or telephone or through the contact form of this website. We would love to hear what your plans are for next year and where you will be visiting with our carpet tiles adorning your home away from home.

It’s Halloween Time…

It’s Trick or Treat time of year again. All of your nearest, dearest and neighbours bringing their costumed children to knock on your door! You just know that their parents can’t help themselves from checking out your house! Can you make a good impression? Does your hall flooring live up to your high standards?

Now is the time to start thinking about making the entrance into your home eye catching and decide not to just make do with the usual humdrum. Your doorway is the first step into your realm, so let us make it an impressive first step. We can give those inquisitive visitors something to talk about as they continue their trip around town. Your style could become the new benchmark. As you open the door to visitors, let them be impressed with a smart, welcoming carpet tiled entrance.

Carpet tiles are a great choice for hallways and doorways as they are able to endure the heavy footfall and rough wear that accompanies this area of your home. Also with the ability to be easily cleaned, individual tiles can be lifted and washed or replaced, if need be due to soiling, keeping your flooring looking nicer for longer.

Here at Carpet tiles Next Day we stock an impressive array of options suitable for your entrance way. You can achieve a warm hospitable look with many of our ranges, maybe opting for a value range suitable for the smaller budget such as the Velours or Fine Ribs; or our Broad Ribs that offer a contemporary coir matting type effect; or maybe our plush nylon cut pile, the latter is comparable to those used in the smartest hotels for their lobbies.

For those rainy days and wellington boots of Autumn we can also supply barrier tiles. These door mat style tiles should be fitted rug-like among your carpet tiles, laid just inside the door acting as an effectual barrier, keeping the dirt, mud and grime in the doorway and not spilling onto your beautiful newly laid carpet tiles.

This October 31st, let us help you open your door with pride. Happy Halloween.
